Fitzroy's Storm Glass Description

Gaze at this impressive Fitzroy Storm glass from home and wonder what it would have been like to be a seafarer. 

This cool device is a modern version of the storm glass used by sailors in weather prediction for over a century!

The hand-blown glass device is filled with liquid and crystals that form as the weather changes, predicts storms, and warns of fine weather. Used by Captain Fitzroy on the voyage of the HMS Beagle, this would make a fascinating addition to anyone's home.

The changes in the weather (atmospheric pressure) cause a chemical reaction within the storm glass and crystals of different shapes and sizes form. 

The hand-blown glass tube contains a mixture of Camphor, Distilled Water, Ethanol and other trace elements.

Fitzroy's Storm Glass is a cylindrical tube with a pointed tip and a sturdy glass base. It includes a guide for reading different weather patterns from sunny skies, to windy days, even snow - that way you'll know when to take your jacket with you!

The Storm Glass stands 28cm tall.

I used to own one of these and when I saw this I was keen to get another one. I also have a barometer and a few other temp measuring devices so it looks like I am building a weather station.
